The leading Mobile Network provider in Nigeria “MTN” has introduced and demonstrated live demo of the 5G network in an event that took place in Abuja Nigeria
This is in line with the network providers plans of extending the 5G network coverage to other cities of the country, before the year 2020.
This live 5G demo was done in partnership with the chinese tech giant company “Huawei” as Twitter on the MTN Nigeria official Twitter handle.

The NCC recently promised a rollout of the fifth-generation cellular network by 2020, but MTN Nigeria has finally beat the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to it, launching a trial of the network before the communication commission even approved 5G network for official use.
It’s right to say that 5G is better than 4G in a number of ways. 5G technology has 1,000-times the capacity, 100-times the connected device, 100-times the speed, 10-times reliability, and 10-times lower latency than 4G.
MTN Nigeria’s CEO, Ferdi Moolman, on his speech highlighted that the rollout of 5G would enhance subscribers’ data experience and I quote
5G will make our life better, drive incremental capacity and open up new businesses. MTN as a company is constantly making efforts to break barriers by democratising voice and data connectivity in order to improve subscriber experience, and has invested over N800 billion in infrastructure in Nigeria
Well, the race to introduce of 5G network in Africa started back in 2018, when MTN announced the kick off of 5G network trial in Africa at its headquarters in South Africa, sponsored by the network equipment provider, Ericsson.

Introduction of 5G network in Africa and in the world at large is still a work in progress, a lot still has to be done, the infrastructures and the devices etc, as of the moment only the tech giants Samsung and Huawei has the 5G compatible devices.
Most users in Nigeria are already worried as per the rate rate at which the 5G network will consume data, however, MTN promises that the introduction and increase capacity of of 5G will provide data at a pocket friendly cost for Nigerians.
