Written by Chrisrepair

Xiaomi has just introduced their new air charging technology, with this new charging tech you can charge your phone without any cables or wireless charging stands, in fact you charge your phone over the air same way you connect your phone to a Bluetooth receiver or wifi.

Xiaomi said that user can even charge multiple compatible devices simultaneously with the Mi air charger, and this can be done while using your phone for gaming, chatting, or any other thing.

How Mi Air Charge Technology Works

  • The core technology of Xiaomi’s remote charging lies in space positioning and energy transmission.
  • Xiaomi’s self-developed isolated charging pile has five phase interference antennas built-in, which can accurately detect the location of the smartphone.
  • A phase control array composed of 144 antennas transmits millimeter-wide waves directly to the phone through beamforming.
  • On the smartphone side, Xiaomi has also developed a miniaturized antenna array with built-in “beacon antenna” and “receiving antenna array”. Beacon antenna broadcasts position information with low power consumption.
  • The receiving antenna array composed of 14 antennas converts the millimeter wave signal emitted by the charging pile into electric energy through the rectifier circuit, to turn the sci-fi charging experience into reality

In its current state, Xiaomi’s remote charging technology can charge multiple devices with a 5W current within a radius of “several meters”. Xiaomi claims that physical objects don’t reduce the charging efficiency, but this must have some caveats.

Xiaomi teases that its Mi Air Charge tech would be eventually compatible with smartwatches, fitness bands, and other wearables.

No release date is offered for the Mi Air Charge system and it’s not known if such technology would ever make it to the consumer market. One thing we know for sure – it’s going to be expensive whenever it does arrive. It’s interesting to see innovations like this and we’re excited for the future of wireless charging technology.
